Leading Content Without Losing Yourself

Are you being asked to “do more with less”—while also trying to keep yourself or your team from burnout? This workshop is for you.

ONLINE WORKSHOP
12 - 2:30pm ET

“Leading Content Without Losing Yourself was like the tonic I didn’t know I needed to soothe my soul. The course all content people need right now.”

—Candi Williams, director of content design, Bumble

Content disciplines have grown dramatically in the past few years—but now it’s 2023, and….well, things don’t look rosy. Teams are facing hiring freezes and reorgs, layoffs have been widespread, and fears of AI taking away writers’ jobs abound.

So how can you keep calm—and maybe even reconnect with why you got into this field in the first place—in this moment?

This workshop will show you how. Without running around trying to “demonstrate value” until you burn out.

Because here’s the truth: there will always be another stakeholder to convince, another closed door to pry open, and another bit of copy floating out there that makes you cringe. Overworking and people-pleasing simply aren’t sustainable ways to make an impact.

Instead, we’ll help you lead your team or build your practice in a way that doesn’t leave you wrung out and ready to quit. In this workshop, we’ll:

  • Look at some of the common ways we’ve seen content leaders burn out or hit walls in their organizations.

  • Share challenges growing our teams and gaining influence for our work with content peers who actually get it.

  • Reflect on how reactive models for content teams—like working as a service to the rest of the design org, running endless writing workshops, or constantly “smoothing out” the content at the last minute—lead to content practices that are in high demand, yet perceived as low value.

  • Explore what it looks like to break out of people-pleasing mode and commit to a strategic agenda and priorities for your practice (including how to set boundaries and start saying no, even when it feels impossible).

Note: this workshop is NOT going to provide you with team structure recommendations or frameworks for scaling from 1 to 100 writers. Instead, expect exercises that generate deep reflection on what’s draining you as a leader right now, and that give you the confidence to make bold moves in how you approach your work and your practice in the future.
