Self-Advocacy for Everyone

Champion your ideas, communicate your needs, and set boundaries at work

ONLINE WORKSHOP
1 - 3:30pm ET

Do you tell your manager that things are fine—even when they’re not? Say yes to everything because you’re scared of letting anyone down? Keep hoping someone will reward your hard work—and then feel inadequate when they don’t?

You’re in good company, friend. So many of us struggle with self-advocacy. “What if I’m punished or ignored?” we might think. Those fears are real—but so are the risks of staying silent! When we don’t speak up for ourselves and our work, other people make assumptions about our needs or miss out on our accomplishments. We wind up feeling overworked, undervalued, and utterly demoralized.

There’s a better way. By combining deep self-awareness skills with intentional communication techniques, you can self-advocate more confidently—and successfully.

What you’ll learn

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to:

  • Understand your core needs at work and identify when they’re not being met

  • Make clear requests you can communicate to anyone

  • Champion the specific strengths and accomplishments you want others to notice

  • Define your boundaries and communicate them effectively—not defensively

You’ll leave feeling more confident speaking up for yourself and your work in any situation.

Who it’s for

This workshop is for anyone who struggles with speaking up for themselves, and will particularly center the experiences of women and other marginalized genders.

“I really liked how Sara had concrete examples of how to reframe things rather than just talking about them in theory or having only prompting questions—e.g., instead of saying ‘I’m overwhelmed, help me!’ say ‘These two projects are at conflict with one another, I’d like to focus on XYZ and suggest we do ABC with the remainder. What do you think?’ Great to see her strategies applied in practice.”
