You schedule design reviews, but no one wants to share their work. You see major strategic potential in a team member, but they keep getting stuck in rabbit holes. Or maybe you’re beginning to worry about budget cuts hitting your org—so you start pressuring your team to overwork to prove its worth.
Each of these leadership challenges has a shared root: Fear. And when we’re afraid, we tend to hide—from the problem, and from each other.
That’s where coaching comes in. Coaching isn’t just mentorship or advice. It’s a thought-provoking process that pulls back the veil and helps people face their needs and worries from a place of curiosity and strength. This workshop will give you an introduction to some of the most powerful coaching skills design and tech leaders can use to empower their teams and grow their practices.
What you’ll learn
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn:
How to ask powerful questions that help others get unstuck and unlock fresh insight
Listening skills that help you get to the heart of a person’s challenges or frustrations
Tools for helping people reframe their challenges and move forward
Techniques for making 1:1s more impactful and less draining
Methods for coaching yourself through challenging times
You’ll leave with new skills you can apply right away in 1:1s, team meetings, and anywhere you want to kickstart your team’s growth.
Who it’s for
This workshop is for formal and informal team leaders, including managers, leads, and senior ICs. Coaching skills can benefit anyone responsible for mentoring, supporting the growth of team members, or giving feedback (or hopes to be in the future).
“It really helped me see how helpful it was to be heard without someone trying to solve a problem. Academically, I understood that it's good to listen… but FEELING it in practice just drove it home.”
